The answer: start in Guilin and stay in Yangshuo
Organise four days into Guilin arrival, transfer to Yangshuo, countryside time and departure. One example has night one in Guilin and nights two and three in Yangshuo, reduced if flights leave less time. A Li River cruise can be part of the transfer experience, depending on its route, piers, finish and luggage arrangements.
This is a flexible itinerary; confirm reservations and opening conditions for your travel dates. It favours slower scenery rather than complete coverage and includes no essential long hike. Establish the arrival and departure hubs before assigning nights; a four-day label should not hide transport time.
Day one: one Guilin city focus
Reach confirmed accommodation, register and leave luggage. With time remaining, choose one riverbank area or a checked city attraction and eat nearby. External walks and ticketed experiences differ. Avoid fixed boarding times immediately after a long arrival.
Check the next day’s boat or vehicle, meeting point, hotel collection, meals, documents and luggage. Give the pier its exact map location rather than only ‘Li River pier’. Raise dietary, mobility or motion-sickness concerns before payment and ask about workable alternatives.

Day two: choose a boat or road transfer
For scenery while moving, compare specific official cruise products. The Li River scenic area website lists routes and boat types and posts navigation notices. A ‘Li River ticket’ does not establish a direct transfer from Guilin city to a Yangshuo hotel. Verify start, route, finish, check-in and onward connection.
A road transfer can combine scenery stops with the hotel route, after checking stopping points, waiting and luggage. Neither method universally wins. A boat suits longer seated river viewing, while road travel may suit control over pauses or avoiding boats. Seat grade does not establish meals, full service or English guiding.
For passports, check the selected operator’s names, document fields, child details and original-document inspection. Ask official staff if the form only accepts a mainland ID. Weather, water levels and restrictions can change sailing. Replacement vehicles or activities have separate orders and costs, not an automatic free substitution.
In Yangshuo, collect luggage and check in before nearby walking. Confirm the final hotel connection from the actual pier or drop-off. Leave the evening flexible rather than rushing to another river or performance; the transfer itself is part of the experience.
Day three: Yulong River and countryside pauses
Yulong River activities differ from Li River cruises and require separate products. The official Yulong website posts pier capacity and service information. Verify the exact pier, section, endpoint and pickup. A booking should not be treated as usable at every pier.
For rafting, ask the current operator about age, height, health, mobility, belongings and documents. Adult arrangements do not establish suitability for every child or older companion. Consider a lawful open riverside walk instead, and avoid unauthorised rafts as a substitute for unavailable tickets.
For countryside walking or cycling, confirm open roads, exits, weather, surfaces and each person’s experience. Check rental conditions, insurance and returns. An electric vehicle label does not establish licence exemptions or remove equipment needs. A short walk with legitimate vehicle support can replace a full circuit.
Keep afternoon time to rest, observe or photograph. Choose town dining for bustle, or check local meals and transport for a quieter stay. A river-view advertisement does not promise every room has the same outlook or that entering the water is permitted. Follow signs and management rules.

Day four: work backwards from the departure hub
Verify the full station or airport and the route from your hotel. A station called Yangshuo should not be assumed walkable from the town; map it and confirm connections. Guilin also has different stations. Use dated 12306 information and allow security, document checks and waiting.
For a later departure, stay close to accommodation and use an activity you can end easily. An early departure makes this a travel day. Adding Longji terraces introduces another transfer theme; extend or replace a complete section of the plan instead of cutting the departure buffer.
Rain and water conditions: an alternative can be rest
Check visibility, surfaces and water conditions separately. Light rain does not guarantee boats or rafts operate; personal assumptions cannot establish safety in heavier weather. Official navigation notices take priority. Past operation in a certain month does not establish year-round availability.
Shorten open riverside walks, retain a confirmed indoor cultural visit or rest at the hotel. Verify indoor access too; a town name does not establish an all-day sheltered activity. Allow rain protection and clothing changes. Admission, replacement transport and hotel changes follow separate orders, without a universal compensation promise.
Questions and the four-day boundary
Are Li River cruises and Yulong rafts the same? No; check rivers, products and piers independently. Does a boat ticket include hotel transport? Only if expressly included, alongside any meals or guiding. Can children board every raft? Do not assume so; ask about current participation conditions.
Can I stay in Guilin throughout? You can request it, accepting longer daily transfers. This example stays in Yangshuo to reduce repetition. Will rainy scenery match promotional images? Not necessarily; light, water and visibility vary.
This suits four days of slower rivers and countryside. Intensive hikes, many natural areas or a one-night Guilin stop need a different structure. Sources were checked on 4 October 2026. Confirm piers, participation, three hotel nights and departure hub, then recheck weather and notices.
